There are many ways to gain exposure on your pre-health path. You should begin by choosing opportunities and activities that are genuine to you and resist the temptation to compare your experience to other pre-health students. It matters greatly that you work in settings that are true to you and where you are doing work you care about as you network with professionals and gain professional experience and/or exposure. Your application to a professional health school will ask you to provide evidence of empathy, compassion, service-orientation, and ethical responsibility when serving others; clinical experience is often the way students communicate these qualities on the application.

To get started on exploring, here are some areas you can focus on:

Job Shadowing and Informational Interviewing

Building Relationships and Networking

Get involved in student organizations

Volunteering

As you are exploring ways to gain exposure, you may want to consider applying to a summer enrichment program. The AAMC has a searchable datatbase of opportunities you may find interesting!
