Mario Villegas is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Political Science at the University of Michigan. Mario studies American Politics and Research Methodology. Mario is interested in the political psychology of disadvantaged and minoritized communities. In particular, Mario studies the conditions in which these populations choose to participate in politics. Some of the behaviors Mario studies include running for elected office, attending and speaking at local community meetings, and organizing political movements.
During his master's, Mario was a graduate research assistant for the Voting and Election Science Team at the University of Florida, where he helped collect and analyze precinct-level election data. During his time at Michigan, Mario has contributed to the American National Election Studies as a graduate fellow, helping the lead team with data analytics and visualizations.
