Congratulations to Anne Manuel and George Tyler for being named Teaching Professors!
Teaching Professorships are the University's highest honor and title that Lecturers can earn. As the Political Science community has long been lucky to know, Anne and George have truly well-earned it.
Anne Manuel is a political theorist, and her primary area of research is American political thought. She has also trained in feminist theory and modern political theory. She will be receiving her PhD from Rutgers University. Her dissertation explores how conceptions of work and idleness shaped, and continue to influence, debates on citizenship in America. She has taught at Fordham University and Northwestern University.
George Tyler teaches a variety of courses in political theory. He is also the undergraduate academic advisor in the Department of Political Science. He is interested in modern to contemporary political thought. He focuses on historical and contemporary liberalism and theoretical challenges to it from both the conservative and radical traditions. Beyond the theoretical content of his courses, he is interested in exploring pedagogical approaches to teaching writing and argumentation. He has been a Senior Writing Fellow at the University of Michigan's Sweetland Writing Center and a Thomas C. Rumble Fellow (Wayne State University). The broad scope of his interests has led to publications in journals ranging from Politics and Religion to the Journal of the Philosophy of Sport.
