Toni is a sought-after speaker with a special interest in trauma resilience, a women’s health coach, and a yoga teacher. At the age of seventeen, Toni was sentenced to twenty-five to fifty years in prison and would live the next seventeen years of her life as at the Robert Scott Correctional Facility. While incarcerated Toni focused on bettering herself through education and social work, which included organizing against sexual abuse. Toni became the lead witness in a landmark sexual assault case resulting in systematic changes in the Michigan Department of Corrections to protect incarcerated women and children. In 2008, Toni’s sentence was commuted by Governor Jennifer Granholm.Since her release, Toni has worked as a criminal justice advocate in Detroit and organized nationally for the humane treatment of incarcerated women and children.
