Students earn an entire semester of University of Michigan academic credit while participating in Michigan in Washington.
· The semester before you go to D.C., you’ll take a professional development (2 credits) course that provides personalized coaching on internship searches, resumes and cover letters, networking, and interviews.
· Internships earn three credits. Most students work full time Monday through Thursday.
· Students may elect to take a core research seminar (4 credits), where students learn to diagnose and analyze a policy problem and communicate that analysis effectively in various formats, from analytical reports to oral briefings. This class fulfills the upper-level writing requirement.
· Electives (3 credits each) are taught by faculty from U-M and other universities; typically, students can choose between 3 electives or a combination of credits including the research seminar.
· The Washington Experience (1 credit) is a required course featuring prominent local speakers.
