Abigail Haile

Abigail joined the LRC in October of 2022 after completing her undergraduate degree in Anthropology and Psychology at the University of Michigan. As the Operations Supervisor, she works with the Information Specialist in collections management and circulation, presiding over the center itself and room reservations, and supervising the student staff team. As the Language Bank Coordinator, Abigail manages the community translation projects submitted to the Language Bank, coordinating volunteers, tracking translation progress, and disseminating information/opportunities that deal with translation to our community.

Her relationship with languages began with growing up in a trilingual household and attempting to reconnect to her heritage languages - Tigrinya and Amharic. This instilled a love for language-learning that has followed her throughout her academic career and into university, where she gained experience in language resources and support by tutoring Spanish heritage speakers and ESL students in programs like Proyecto Avance: Latino Mentoring Association and the Spanish Language Internship Program.
