Placement Tests

Take a World Language Placement Test!

If you have no prior experience in a language you would like to study, you may register for the first course in the language sequence. Otherwise, you should take a language placement test. Some tests are online via the Canvas LMS, some include oral interviews; others are by appointment only.

Click on the links below to learn more about placement testing for the language you would like to study. Take your placement test, including any virtual interviews, at least two weeks before your advising appointment so that your results can be processed and made available.

If you have experience in a language that is not listed below (i.e. not taught at U-M), the LRC can facilitate a proficiency test to determine if this experience will fulfill the LSA language requirement. Find out more about proficiency tests for languages not taught at U-M. You may also find these FAQs for students taking proficiency tests for languages not taught at U-M helpful.
