Tatjana Bijelić
Weiser Professional Development Fellow, 2019
Tatjana Bijelić is a professor at the University of Banja Luka in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where she teaches Anglo-American Literature. Her fields of research include modern and contemporary literatures in English, migrant and transnational writing, and post-Yugoslav literature. She has published a number of scholarly articles, three award-winning poetry collections, and two books of translations. Her recent publications include Dickinsonian Intonations in Modern Poetry (2018) and Contemporary Anglo-American Poetry: Ideology, Myth, Confession (Savremena angloamerička poezija: ideologija, mit, ispovijest; 2018). Professor Bijelić will visit U-M in March to work on the research project, “Contemporary Poetry in English and Creative Writing: Teaching Methods and Strategies,” with Linda Gregerson, Caroline Walker Bynum Distinguished University Professor of English.
Ljupco Efremov

Ljupco Efremov is research manager at indago, a market research company in Skopje, North Macedonia. He holds a PhD in psychology from the University of Saints Cyril and Methodius in Skopje. During his professional career, he has been involved in a number of consultant and research projects for public institutions, private companies, international organizations and NGOs, and has received applied research training. He teaches at the University American College Skopje, and taught at the School of Journalism and Public Relations from 2011-14. His professional interests are in various areas of marketing, teaching, and safety climate. Mr. Efremov will visit U-M in September to work on the project “Consumer Behavior among Older Populations” with Carolyn Yoon, professor of marketing, and Fred Feinberg, Joseph Handleman Professor of Marketing and professor of statistics.
Alexei Krivolap
Weiser Professional Development Fellow, 2019
Alexei Krivolap is an associate professor in the Department of Finance and Economics at Polatsk State University and a lecturer at the European College of Liberal Arts in Belarus. He graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy and Economics of the Belarusian State University and has a PhD in cultural studies from the Russian State University for the Humanities. He has been a Fulbright Visiting Scholar, a Carnegie Research Fellow with the National Council for Eurasian and East European Research, and a Gräfin-Dönhoff Fellow. His recent book is titled Runet: New Constellation in the Internet Galaxy, available in Russian for free on Amazon. His scientific interests include cultural and internet studies, as well as cultural identity. Professor Krivolap will visit U-M in September to work on his research project, “Digitalization of Identity in the Algorithmic World,” with John Cheney-Lippold, associate professor of American culture, and Derek W. Vaillant, professor of communication studies and history.
Adrijana Marčetić
Weiser Professional Development Fellow, 2019
Adrijana Marčetić is a professor of comparative literature and theory of literature at the University of Belgrade in Serbia, where she teaches about literary theory, comparative and cultural studies, narratology, and Marcel Proust. She has published extensively on modern Serbian fiction. Her books include Narrative Figures (Figure pripovedanja, 2004 & 2005); History and Story (Istorija i priča, 2009); and After Comparative Literature (O novoj komparatistici, 2015 & 2018). She has also co-edited the following collections: Comparative Literature Studies Today (2005); Cultures, Nations, Autofictions (2013); and Encompassing Comparative Literature: Theory, Interpretation, Perspectives (2016). Professor Marčetić will visit U-M in September to work on the project, “Futures of Comparative Literature Studies in Serbia,” with Tatjana Aleksić, associate professor of Slavic languages and literatures and comparative literature.
Marjan Petreski
Weiser Professional Development Fellow, 2019
Marjan Petreski is associate professor in the School of Business Economics and Management at the University American College Skopje and cofounder of Finance Think – Economic Research & Policy Institute, a prominent and influential economic think tank in Skopje, North Macedonia. He holds a PhD in economics from Staffordshire University, UK. His recent research focuses on development issues, labor markets, and evaluation of the effects of economic policies, with a strong focus on transition economies. He has published widely in international peer-reviewed journals, authored four books, and written eleven chapters in edited volumes. He has been awarded the Young Scientist Award by the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts (2009), the Olga Radzyner Award by the Österreichische Nationalbank (2010), the Japanese Award for Outstanding Research on Development by the Global Development Network and the Government of Japan (2013), and the LSE-CEFTA Award for best paper on trade by the CEFTA Secretariat and the London School of Economics (2016). He was a Career Integration Fellow at CERGE-EI in Prague from 2012-15, and is currently a research fellow of the Partnership for Economic Policies in Canada. Professor Petreski will visit U-M in September to work on his research project, “Understanding the Role of Globalization for Workers in Transition Economies,” with David Lam, professor of economics.
Peter Terem
Weiser Professional Development Fellow, 2019
Peter Terem is a professor of international relations at Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica, Slovak Republic. His background combines academic research and project management with over 22 years of professional experience in scholarly research, teaching, research supervision, and team-leading. His research focuses on nuclear proliferation, foreign policy, and the role of great powers and regional powers in world politics. He has served on the Slovak National Convention on the EU, an expert’s board for the Slovak Ministry of Defense, and as a senior fellow of the GLOBSEC Academy Centre. He was a Fulbright Research Fellow at Boston College in 2015 and received the Outstanding Pedagogue Award from the SPP Foundation in 2008. He has written several books, contributes to international relations journals, and is a political commentator for RTVS (Radio and Television of Slovakia). Professor Terem will visit U-M in September to work on the project “The Concept of Soft Power in the Context of the Transforming International Environment and Its Potential for Small State Strategies” with John D. Ciorciari, associate professor of public policy.
Zurab Tsetskhladze
Weiser Professional Development Fellow, 2019
Zurab Tsetskhladze is a professor of molecular biology and genetics at the New Vision University Medical School in Tbilisi, Georgia. His research interests include DNA polymorphisms of noncoding regions of the human genome, and modeling human disease. He received his PhD in molecular biology from the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biophysics (Tbilisi). He was a postdoctoral fellow and junior faculty member at the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine from 2007-14 and director of the Center of Aquaculture Technologies – Georgia from 2014-15. Professor Tsetskhladze will visit U-M in March 2019 to work on his research project “Studying Human Noncoding DNA Polymorphisms Affecting Pigmentation in Model Systems” in collaboration with Patricia Wittkopp, Sally L. Allen Collegiate Professor of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology.
