“One of the most influential experiences I've had I found through the Weekly toPICS email! During summer 2022, I worked as a researcher at the Syrian Emergency Task Force, a non-profit organization that works to end atrocities committed against Syrian civilians through humanitarian initiatives, advocacy, and the pursuit of justice and accountability for war crimes. I worked on a project that used open-source research methods to construct a database and map of regime run prisons and detention centers in Syria. Through this internship, I had the opportunity to connect with people who have done very impressive work in the realms of international law and human rights, as well as gain my own experience in these fields. My work there helped me understand more about how organizations like SETF function and has helped shaped the direction I see my career heading.”
Future plans: “As of now, I hope to attend law school, and pursue a career in international law, international security, or human rights work.”
