African Studies Center’s Book Series, African Perspectives, launches first volume
ASC’s reception at the 2016 annual meeting of African Studies Association last December 2, featured the launch of the first volume in the new book series, African Perspectives, co-edited by U-M professors Kelly Askew and Anne Pitcher. The series' first volume, African Print Cultures: Newspapers and Their Publics in the Twentieth Century highlights the creative work of African newspaper editors and contributors to bring an African public culture into view.
The collection of broad-ranging essays spanning more than a century's worth of newspaper publishing practices across the continent was edited by Derek R. Peterson, Professor of History and African Studies at the University of Michigan; Emma Hunter, Lecturer in African History at the University of Edinburgh; and Stephanie Newell, Professor of English and Senior Research Fellow in International and Area Studies at Yale University.
