The Barger Leadership Institute, in collaboration with M-LEAD, has designed a Leadership Certificate to formalize undergraduate student engagement through leadership coursework, co-curricular activities, and service-learning across campus. The LC supports the University of Michigan’s commitment to developing leaders that challenge and enrich our world by preparing students to enact positive social change through an academic and co-curricular path of education, training, and personal reflection. The LC is an opportunity to develop and celebrate leadership skills, and inspire cohort members to continue to shape their campus and community, both during and after their time at the University of Michigan.

In Winter 2022, the Leadership Certificate welcomed in its first-ever cohort of 13 undergraduate students at the University of Michigan:

Why did you join the Certificate Program?

"The certificate program seemed like an excellent opportunity for numerous reasons. Firstly, it is a great honor to have been invited to be a part of the very first cohort of such a trailblazing program. Beyond this, it will be an excellent opportunity for me to reflect on my growth and development as a leader through my extracurricular, co-curricular and curricular experiences over my 4 years at UM. Additionally, it will be a great way to learn about the work of other leaders on campus. "

- Magda Wojtara

"I decided to join the Leadership Certificate Program as an opportunity to learn more about how to use my own values in leadership to develop more meaningful interactions both inside and outside academic settings."

- Darica Brazier

What do you hope to get out of the program?

"Ultimately, I hope that the Leadership Certificate Program helps us grow as a community of future leaders together. I believe everyone who participates in the program wants to be very intentional in how they interact with others and reflect on those experiences to continuously evolve their leadership style. "

- Saniya Shahid

"During the program, I hope to reflect on my experiences as a college student leader, so that I can pinpoint key stories that have helped me learn and grow as a young adult."

-Rohan Barad
