Meet Chonkers!

If you don't know who Chonkers is, you are missing out!  Chonkers is a 2,000 pound male sea lion taking over the San Fransisco Bay scene.  More than that, Chonkers is a viral international superstar.  He's a true sea-lebrity!  Read below to learn all about this beloved marine mammal.

Here is a beloved photo of Chonkers taken by Jomel Loresca and Feautured on National Geographic.  Chonkers is showing off his best features on K-Dock on Pier 39 in the San Fransisco Bay Area.  Check out the pier for an opportunity to see the humongus rockstar!  Chonkers frequents the pier in the early morning and usually leaves around 10 am.  Unlike other California sea lions that frequent the pier, Chonkers is a Steller sea lion meaning he can grow over twice as large as the locals.  He is a marine mammal made for the open ocean, but staying in the bay allows him to be safe frem predators.  It's not uncommon for Steller sea lions to stay in the bay, but as marine mammals like him are made for the open ocean, there is the chance that he can leave at any moment.  Make sure to visit him before the ocean calls him once again!
