The Cog Sci advising team’s goal is to support Cog Sci students as they navigate their degree. There are a number of reasons you may come to advising. We’ve created the chart below to help you figure out with whom to start. If you have any questions, never hesitate to reach out!
To meet with a Cog Sci Staff Advisor: please make an appointment using the advising calendar.
To meet with a Cog Sci Peer Facilitator: please consult their calendar to make an appointment. Please note, Cognitive Science Peer Facilitators are not available during the Spring and Summer terms.
Declaring the Cognitive Science Major
If you’re currently enrolled as an undergraduate student in the U-M College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, you may declare a major in Cognitive Science by following the steps below:
- Register for and complete the first 3 weeks of COGSCI 200 - Intro to Cognitive Science with a C- or better. COGSCI 200 is the only required prerequisite course to the major. However, some courses on the track lists have additional prerequisites.
- Review the Cognitive Science Curriculum
- Meet with a Peer Facilitator during the fall or winter semesters, or a Staff Advisor over the spring or summer semesters to finish the declaration process.
- If you are planning to declare a Cog Sci major and you are a Joint Degree student or planning to Cross-Campus Transfer from another college, please meet with a Staff Advisor.
