The Red para el Estudio de la Economía Política de América Latina (REPAL) is a network of researchers (institutionally affiliated with universities in Latin America, North America, and Europe) interested in promoting and giving greater visibility to new studies in the political economy of Latin America.
Edgar Franco-Vivanco, alongside Jenny Guardado, received the Best Paper Award for Jurisdictional Havens: The Geography of Indigenous Identity in Mexico.
"We argue that subjects living in 'jurisdictional havens'- areas where rulers face competition from other rulers due to overlapping jurisdictions-enjoy prerogatives unavailable to those outside them [and] we employ this mechanism to explain the geographic distribution of Indigenous identity in Mexico today..."
Elena Barham, alongside Ella Bayi and María Victoria Murillo, received the Honorable Mention for Green Coalitions: Democracy, Civil Society and Protected Areas in Latin America.
