The University of Michigan Department of Political Science mourns the loss of Professor Emeritus Dr. Samuel H. Barnes.
Dr. Barnes passed on May 21, 2024, at his home near San Francisco, California. He was a long-time Professor of Political Science (1957-1991), Department Chair (1977-1982), and researcher at the ISR and CPS during his time at U-M. Dr. Barnes spent his life studying voting behavior and political action in Western Democracies.
His ashes will be placed in the Memorial Garden at St. Andrews, the family's church in Ann Arbor.
