Mary Gallagher has been appointed Director of the International Institute at the University of Michigan. Since its launch in 1993, the International Institute has developed and supported international teaching, research, and public affairs programming that helps students and faculty see the world through a global lens.
Mary is the Amy and Alan Lowenstein Professor in Democracy, Democratization, and Human Rights in the Department of Political Science. Her research areas are Chinese politics, comparative politics of transitional and developing states, and law and society.
