It is with great sadness that we report that Professor George Downs passed
away on Wednesday, January 21st, 2015. George Downs was the Bernhardt
Denmark Professor of International Relations in NYU's Wilf Family
Department of Politics. He received his Ph.D. in 1976 from the University
of Michigan, and served in a host of leadership positions here. In
recognition of his contributions to the field of Political Science, Downs
was elected as a fellow to the American Academy of Arts and Science in
2014.
