Dissertation Title: The Politics of the Urban Topography
Summary: I am a PhD candidate in political science and scientific computing, also doing a dual master’s degree in statistics at the University of Michigan. I am currently a Rackham Pre-doctoral Fellow. I also collaborate with the VINO project about police oversight. My research agenda focuses on understanding political violence and state-building processes. My main research project investigates the creation, effects, and destruction of the urban built environment. In my Job Market Paper, I study the relationship between armed conflict and the urban built environment. In other projects, I study the dynamics of mass political dissent, the foundations of security agencies, and political and criminal violence. Methodologically, I rely on GIS and remotely sensed data to provide measurement frameworks to further understand the characteristics of the physical environment, and also use diverse statistical inference tools. My work has appeared in International Interactions, Political Research Quarterly, and Latin American Politics and Society.
