The Intersection of Theatre and Business
Throughout my life, I have been involved in theatre and music, and I have always been very passionate about these topics. When coming to college, I knew I was not going to pursue acting or performance professionally; however, I still felt a strong desire to be involved in these processes. Through Organizational Studies, I will be able to study how organizations work with a focus specifically on arts administration and theatre management. I plan to focus on the intersection of arts, business, and the social sciences to glean a deeper understanding of how theatre companies work and the ways in which the systems already in place can be improved. Classes in psychology, marketing, sociology, business, and leadership will give me the skills I will need to fully understand and work within the business side of the theatre industry. These classes, combined with my extracurricular involvement in creative projects, will provide me with a strong foundation that will prepare me to go into theatre management and the larger business world as a whole.
