The Economics and Psychology of Decision-Making and Social Change
In Organizational Studies, I can uncover how institutions and individuals drive change: from how the government and economy impact business and nonprofit policy to how social-environmental conditions and individual and group processes affect decision-making. I apply the principles of economics, sociology, and psychology to understand and implement human-centered policies, strategies, and messaging that further social success.
Through education in business, environmental economics, and social and organizational psychology, I further investigate how individuals and communities can work together to impact organizations' practices and create a more equitable and sustainable future. In courses on nonprofit and for-profit firm practices and management, I research the external factors affecting organizations and how to balance a mission while meeting the needs of those an organization serves; I have applied this knowledge in volunteer leadership of an assisted housing organization, various small business and hospitality roles, and as a student journalist and editor. With an academic and extracurricular passion for writing, I aim to create impact through written communications — uplifting diverse perspectives and analyzing social phenomena. In literature courses with diverse perspectives, I further my understanding of individual socialization and changing environmental conditions through their reflections and influences in the media. Organizational Studies celebrates a spirit of connection — between people, disciplines, and organizations. I hope to use these connections within nonprofit, business development, hospitality, and media spaces to make effective decisions and further social change.
