Organizational Decision-making: understanding how legal institutions shape business organizations' behavior and economic outcomes
My pathway began with an interest in economics. Through the organizational studies curriculum, I have applied my background in economics to analyze organizational decision-making. However, my coursework in organizational theory has taught me that rational choice theory alone cannot sufficiently explain the complexities of organizational behavior. Sociology coursework has complimented my economics classes, equipping me with a diverse theoretical toolkit for analyzing organizational behavior.
My pathway has been based primarily on macro organizational theory. I am particularly interested in the interaction between the public and private sectors; specifically, how the government shapes (or fails to shape) the behavior of business organizations. As a pre-law student, the legal system is an institution that has been a point of interest for me. I have sought to understand how laws -- or lack of laws -- can check or empower business organizations.
