Analyzing Communication Relationships and Interaction Between Organizations and Individuals
With an emphasis on communication through messages and the media, my pathway aims to explore the multifaceted relationship between corporations and citizens. I am interested in learning how different types of organizations communicate with individuals in the larger society and how these interactions affect perception, thought, and behavior toward the business. Through a combination of Organizational Studies courses and Communication classes, I plan to build upon my knowledge of relational communication theories to analyze the interactions between individuals and organizations, specifically those in a consumer and retail space. How do employees in these sectors manifest client relations through advertisements, outreach and campaigns?
More broadly, a core aspect of communication is understanding the ethnic diversity in our country and beyond its borders. The fluency I am building through my minor in Spanish Language, Literature and Culture will open avenues and enable me to further investigate these relationships from a nuanced perspective. The interdisciplinary Organizational Studies major, incorporating communication, political science and psychology, alongside my Spanish Language and Culture minor will provide me with the necessary tools to view and conceptualize existing organizational interaction. This internal synergy extends beyond one organization and into the greater society. With this in mind, I will apply my knowledge to improve communication relationships to optimize both consumer satisfaction and producer success.
