Overview and Introduction

The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing cooperation between nations and promoting active international engagement by the United States. 

Each year the James C. Gaither Junior Fellows Program offers 8-10 one-year fellowships ($45,000 salary plus benefits). Candidates are nominated from close to 400 participating colleges. 

Gaither Junior Fellows work as research assistants to the Endowment's senior associates. Those who have begun graduate studies are not eligible for consideration.

Eligibility:

  • Degree Level: Senior or recent alum within one year of graduation
  • Academics: Strong academic credentials 
  • Citizenship: No requirement, but must be eligible to work in the US

Selection Criteria:

  • Strong academic credential
  • Co-curricular involvement in areas relevant to application
  • Foreign language competency or fluency (dependant on project/area)

Application Deadlines

  • U-M Deadline: December 8th, 2024 at 11:59pm ET
  • National Deadline: Mid-January
  • Endorsement: U-M Nomination is Required.
