Lecturer I in Middle East Studies
About
Noam Yan is a Hebrew Lecturer at the University of Michigan and Middlebury College. He has previously taught at Tel Aviv University and David Yellin College in Jerusalem, as well as in programs serving diverse groups in Israel, including immigrants, Palestinians, and Bedouins.
Noam’s teaching combines practical and authentic language use with a focus on the underlying structure and abstract concepts of Hebrew. He designs engaging activities and provides rich yet accessible input to inspire students to express themselves and connect with the language. His goal is to create a welcoming and supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable and make meaningful progress. One example of his creative approach is "Hebrew on Bikes," an initiative that integrates language learning with outdoor cycling.
In addition to teaching, Noam trains educators through unique professional development programs, is working on the next chapter of his upcoming book, and enjoys music, art, and outdoor in his free time.
