2021-22 Public Humanities Intern
About
Abdul considers himself an interdisciplinary social scientist. He is a junior at the LSA majoring in anthropology. He has deep interests in activism, community organizing, cultural and social analysis, politics, chemistry, environmental science, economics, psychology, film, writing, and doing social and cultural research. Abdul wants to do work that breaks the boundaries of where a classroom ends. He is currently working on a project to organize a TEDx event in Uganda for early next summer. As a part of his honors thesis, he is preparing to do ethnographic field research in Northern Uganda focusing on refugees and the Karamajong (a regional pastoral indigenous ethnic group). He will be studying how people are adapting and responding to different political, social, and cultural forces while interacting with different institutional groups attempting to serve their needs. This year through the Public Humanities Project what he hopes and is most excited for is to engage more of his fellow “young explorers” in doing more with the things he and his fellow students are learning.
