Sophie Jin joined the Germanic Languages and Literatures Department at the University of Michigan in 2022. She seeks to promote cross-disciplinary communications between German studies and non-humanity fields. Her research interests include psychoanalysis, new media studies, translation studies and foreign language pedagogy.

Prior to attending the University of Michigan, Sophie received her MA in German Studies from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a certificate in Translation Studies. Her MA thesis is entitled “Disappearing of the Subject: How Video Games Encourage Twenty-first Century Narcissism.” She also earned her BA in German and BS in Electrical Engineering from UIUC. During her Master’s study, Sophie taught first-year German language courses as well as two semesters of undergraduate level courses in Germanic studies – Viking Mythology and Grimm's Fairy Tales.
