About
Emma joined the Germanic Literatures and Languages department in 2025 after graduating from Skidmore College with her B.A. in German and English in 2024. She received honors in both majors for her undergraduate theses, “The Last Puritans: Confessional Poetics in the New England Gothic,” and “‘Ein schönes und frommes Mädchen’: Die Heiligkeit des Leidens in Das Mädchen Ohne Hände,” which was awarded Best Student Paper by the Brothers Grimm Society of North America.
Informed by her background in literary analysis, confessional poetry, and art history, Emma is deeply interested in the narrative structure and continuing cultural legacy of fairy tales. Her research explores the portrayal and subversion of female agency in Grimm tales, approaching texts within a disability studies framework. Further research interests include curation studies, female Kunstmarchen authorship, and the Medieval Cult of Saints.
