Gerald C. and Theresa F. Timmis III Fellowship in Finance and Economics

The Gerald C. and Theresa F. Timmis III Fellowship in Finance and Economics will provide  fellowships to a PhD students pursuing a degree in Economics with a concentration in finance or economic theory. 

Winter 2026 Recipient: Jiahao Chen

Jiahao Chen is a fifth-year PhD candidate specializing in Industrial Organization and the Economics of Technology. His research examines how technological innovations transform economies, focusing on the mechanisms that drive innovation incentives, how upstream breakthroughs generate spillover effects in downstream markets, and how information shapes technology adoption. He employs theoretical modeling and empirical methods to provide insights for policy design. Prior to Michigan, he received an honors degree in Economics and Mathematics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
