Green Economy, Human Rights and Labor Reform in the Gulf Cooperation Council
Carlotta Ferrero, Senior Advisor on Human Rights and Business, UN Global Compact Network Saudi Arabia
Join us for a guest lecture with Carlotta Ferrero, Senior Advisor on Human Rights and Business with the UN Global Compact Network Saudi Arabia.
As GCC governments shift their focus towards economic diversification and future-proofing workforces in the face of the climate emergency, there is a unique opportunity to advance responsible business practices and worker welfare, including for migrant workers. The increased focus on sectors such as tourism, manufacturing, agriculture, technology, and finance will require increased transparency, corporate responsibility, and ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) compliance, of which workers’ rights are an increasing and integral part. The new drivers of the economy will also require better-educated and higher-skilled workforces. While transitioning to a green economy, Governments and the whole-of-society should work towards environmentally sustainable and equitable economies with human rights, the rights of workers and vulnerable groups at the centre.
This event will take place in person only.
