The Southeast Asian Drinks event took place on Friday, August 22, 2025. Teachers also shared with students information about the language courses offered in Ann Arbor, resources at CSEAS, and a chance for new undergraduate and graduate students to meet returning students. There was also a raffle of books from CSEAS for participating students.
Over 100 students came to the event in South Thayer Building and tried four different SEA beverages. The menu included: soda gembira from Indonesia, ca phe suda (iced coffee) from Vietnam, Thai milk tea and Thai lemon tea from Thailand, and Sago at Gulaman from the Philippines.
Agustini, the director for southeast Asian languages at U-M said about the event, “This was a great opportunity to welcome new students to campus and share Southeast Asian food and culture with them.”
The Southeast Asian Language teachers plan to hold a similar event in Winter 2026 with Southeast Asian noodles.
