Teachers & Scholars

The Center for Southeast Asian Studies is committed to spreading awareness and knowledge of topics related to Southeast Asian Studies through a variety of outreach efforts that bring resources to K-12 institutions and minority-serving post-secondary institutions.

Through our outreach initiatives and collaborations with the School of Education, the Department of Music Education, and other area studies centers at the International Institute, the center works to incorporate exciting content into curriculum in Michigan school districts.

Regional and National Initiatives: CSEAS partnered with the Midwest Institute for International/Intercultural Education (MIIIE), a consortium of two-year colleges primarily located in the Midwest region to support curriculum and professional development for teachers across the country. In collaboration with other area studies centers at the International Institute, CSEAS is proud to have developed a partnership with the Colleges of Education, Humanities, and Social Sciences at the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras, a major public research university and Minority Serving Institution (MSI) for the purposes of K-16 outreach.
