Ambassador Soesilo giving remarks at Indonesian Cultural Festival 2026.

On April 2 and 3, 2026 The Indonesian Ambassador to the United States Dwisuryo Indroyono Soesilo visited the University of Michigan to meet with university officials and also attend U-M Persatuan Mahasiswa Indonesia Seluruh Amerika Serikat’s (PERMIAS) Indonesian Cultural Festival. Along with the Indonesian Consulate General of Chicago, Trisari Dyah Paramita. Ambassador Soesilo attended the first Indonesian Cultural Festival event in Weiser Hall where PERMIAS demonstrated traditional batik fabric dyeing techniques and helped U-M guests make their own designs.

Ambassador Soesilo, an alumnus of the University of Michigan, received his Master of Science in Remote Sensing for Natural Resources from the University of Michigan in 1981.

During his time back in Ann Arbor, Ambassador Indroyono and Consul General Paramita also had lunch with CSEAS Director Mike McGovern and Professor Emerita Linda Lim at her home in Ann Arbor. Before the lunch, the Ambassador and Consul General met with university officials to discuss opportunities for joint research and support for Indonesian undergraduates and graduate students.

On Indonesian Cultural Night, the U-M community enjoyed gamelan music from the University of Michigan Gamelan Kyai Telaga Madu (Venerable Lake of Honey). The audience also enjoyed traditional dances performed by PERMIAS members and a live music band playing popular songs from all over Indonesia. To start the event, Ambassador Soesilo gave welcoming remarks and thanked the Ann Arbor Indonesian community for their efforts in representing Indonesia,

“I hope that what you are experiencing this evening — the music, the movement and the flavors — that these are the lasting impressions and perhaps even lasting connections,” Soesilo said. “You are not only students; you are cultural ambassadors of Indonesia.”

After all of the performances, guests were invited to try Indonesian food provided by MCatering featuring classic Indonesian dishes such as beef rendang and chicken curry.
