On Tuesday, September 15, 2026, the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History in Detroit hosted Educators Night, an engaging gathering organized by the Detroit Cultural Center Association (DCCA). The event brought together colleges, universities, groups, organizations, and educators from across Michigan’s education sector.

Educators Night gave participants an important opportunity to exchange ideas about the future of education, share information about their programs, events, and activities, and explore ways to collaborate to support the work happening across Michigan. The gathering emphasized the value of partnerships among educational institutions, cultural organizations, community groups, and individual educators in strengthening learning opportunities and advancing shared goals.

For the African Studies Center (ASC), the event offered a valuable platform to connect with institutions interested in enriching their curricula with Africa-focused resources and to explore opportunities to collaborate with these institutions by providing those resources.

Through conversations with fellow educators and representatives from organizations across the state, ASC highlighted the importance of developing partnerships that expand access to Africa-focused resources, support interdisciplinary learning, and create meaningful opportunities for institutions, students, educators, and communities. These collaborations can help promote a deeper understanding of Africa’s histories, cultures, societies, and contributions while strengthening the presence of Africa-focused programming in Michigan.

Educators Night demonstrated the importance of coming together to share ideas, build relationships, and identify new possibilities for cooperation. ASC looks forward to continuing these conversations and working with colleges, universities, organizations, groups, and individuals to support and advance education, programming, and community engagement across Michigan.
