What is the Advising Structure in PCAS?
Brian Miller and Tyrone Stewart, will serve as Program Advisors, and are available for advising, declaring, progress statements, and senior audits regarding minors in Computing for Scientific Discovery and Computing for Expression. May I apply transfer credit or other UM courses toward the minor?
You may petition courses for minor electives or COMPFOR departmental credit through the transfer/exception credit approval process. Transfer courses may be applied toward your minor, but at least 9 of your total credit requirements for the minors must be completed in-residence (through U-M’s Ann Arbor Campus or U-M-AnnArbor Study Abroad). How do I declare a minor?
To declare a minor please schedule a "Declare Minor" appointment using the Online Appointment System, and to help us prepare for your meeting please complete the PCAS: Intention to Declare a Minor form.
Meet the PCAS Advisors
Brian Miller
Lecturer III
Brian is a lecturer and advisor in the Program in Computing for the Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on the role of computation in musical theory and practice, with publications on topics including computer improvisation and the stylistic modeling of jazz, the role of information theory in postwar music theory, and the semiotics of musical algorithms.
Tyrone Stewart
Academic Program Manager
Tyrone is an advisor and the Academic Program Manager for the Program in Computing for the Arts and Sciences (PCAS). His duties span collaborative leadership and program management as well as developing an equitable and accessible environment for a diverse group of students, faculty and visitors. He is most excited about introducing a new way to engage with computing and its applications toward a liberal arts education.

Jasmine Abu
Jasmine is from Brooklyn, New York and is majoring in Urban Technology. She is passionate about graphic design and all things Michigan. Jasmine can be found cooking, researching about interacting with cities, or studying at the Union.
Loryn Canty
Loryn is from Huntersville, North Carolina and she is majoring in Organizational Studies and UX Design. She is passionate about track and field, baking, and traveling. She can usually be found going on walks with friends or studying at the LSA Building.
Tasnia Chowdhury
Tasnia Chowdhury is from Washington, DC, majoring in Biology, Health, and Society. She is passionate about baking, music, and cars. Tasnia can usually be found studying at local coffee shops, the law library, or grabbing a matcha from Unitea.
Kelli Cox
Kelli is a student from Canton, MI majoring in Sociology and Spanish on a Pre-Law Track.Kelli is passionate about trying new foods around Ann Arbor, traveling and scrapbooking. They can usually be found at the gym playing basketball or studying at Sweetwaters.
Cole Franklin
Cole is from Dearborn, Michigan and is majoring in Computer Science. Cole is passionate about music, game design, and trying anything new on campus. They can usually be found studying at the CCCB, browsing the CD section at Wazoo Records, or playing through their backlog of games during free time.
Leslie Garcia
Leslie is from Milwaukee, Wisconsin and is majoring in Data Science. She is passionate about boxing, music, and all things Michigan. Leslie can usually be found studying at coffee shops, researching computing or studying at the Union
Valeria Mas
Valeria is from Charlotte, North Carolina and she is majoring in Chemistry. Valeria is passionate about drawing, cooking, and all things Michigan. She can usually be found reading philosophy books, researching quantum molecular dynamics, or studying at the Fishbowl.
Joy Ren
Joy is from Boston, Massachusetts, majoring in Computer Science and minoring in Public Policy. She loves the NYT Crossword, bouldering, and trying new restaurants and cafes. You can usually find her grabbing a coffee at Lab Cafe or on a run around the Arb!
Aryan Singh
Aryan is from Troy, Michigan, majoring in Statistics and Microbiology. He loves to dance bhangra, eat savory foods, and watch football. Aryan can usually be found studying at Dana or doing research on the medical campus.
April Xiao
April is originally from Newtown, PA. She is majoring in UX Design at the University of Michigan. She is passionate about design, discovering new music, and all things Michigan! You can usually find her at the gym or studying at Ugli!
