What is the Advising Structure in PCAS?
Brian Miller and Tyrone Stewart, will serve as Program Advisors, and are available for advising, declaring, progress statements, and senior audits regarding minors in Computing for Scientific Discovery and Computing for Expression. May I apply transfer credit or other UM courses toward the minor?
You may petition completed courses through our the program’s transfer/exception credit approval process. Transfer courses may be applied toward your minor, but at least 9 of your total credit requirements for the minors must be completed in-residence (through U-M’s Ann Arbor Campus or U-M-AnnArbor Study Abroad). Contact pcas.advising@umich.edu for more information.
How do I declare a minor?
To declare a minor please schedule a "Declare Minor" appointment using the Online Appointment System, and to help us prepare for your meeting please complete the PCAS: Intention to Declare a Minor form.
Meet the PCAS Advisors
Brian Miller
Lecturer
Brian is a lecturer and advisor in the Program in Computing for the Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on the role of computation in musical theory and practice, with publications on topics including computer improvisation and the stylistic modeling of jazz, the role of information theory in postwar music theory, and the semiotics of musical algorithms.
Tyrone Stewart
Academic Program Manager
Tyrone is an advisor and the Academic Program Manager for the Program in Computing for the Arts and Sciences (PCAS). His duties span collaborative leadership and program management as well as developing an equitable and accessible environment for a diverse group of students, faculty and visitors. He is most excited about introducing a new way to engage with computing and its applications toward a liberal arts education.

Alyssa Flak
Alyssa is from Grand Rapids, Michigan, and is majoring in Computer Science and Data Science. She is passionate about sports, spending time outdoors, and all things Michigan. Alyssa can usually be found picking up an iced coffee, researching technology, or studying at Hatcher Library.
Sonya Hansen
Sonya is from Midland, Michigan and I am majoring in Chemistry. They are passionate about cats, Adventure Time, and all things Michigan. Sonya can usually be found at the Chem building, researching chemistry or studying at the UGLi.
Joanne Huh
Joanne is from Little Rock, Arkansas and is majoring in Computer Science. She is passionate about digital art, tech, and all things Michigan. Joanne can usually be found getting boba, researching SWE or studying at the Union.
Sooyoung Jo
Sooyoung is from South Korea and is majoring in Cognitive Science. She is passionate about music, reading, and all things Michigan. Sooyoung can usually be found cleaning, researching computing or studying at Hatcher Graduate Library.
Claire Keegan
Claire is from Kalamazoo, MI, and is majoring in Computer and Data Science. She is passionate about Disney, dancing, and all things Michigan. Claire can usually be found reading a book, researching justice in computing, or studying at the School of Kinesiology Building (or the PCAS office!).
Arya Liu
Arya is from Guangzhou, China, and she is double-majoring in Statistics and Psychology. She is passionate about traveling, watching documentaries, spending time in the woods, and all things Michigan. Arya can usually be found at her co-op, researching her R studio class or studying at Hatcher Library.
Travis McKeller
Travis is from Grand Rapids, Michigan and is majoring in Computer Science. He is passionate about swimming, gaming, and all things Michigan. Travis can usually be found swimming at the NCRB, researching AI, or studying at the Union.
Emma Moss
Emma Moss, a Glen Ridge, NJ native and psychology major, is a passionate advocating for children and the mentally disabled. She also has interest in film, photography, musical theater, and all things Michigan, particularly football. When she’s not studying, you can find Emma at M-36, sipping on caffeine and listening to rock ’n’ roll classics like The Stones and Billy Joel.
Abigail Marveline Taizar
Abigail is from Indonesia and is majoring in Computer Science. She is passionate about connecting with music, savoring different kinds of food, and all things Michigan. Abigail can usually be found napping, researching places to eat, or studying at Shapiro Library.
Ashley Tasmaan
Ashley is from Indonesia and is majoring in Computer Science. She is passionate about sweets, travelling, and all things Michigan. Ashley can usually be found looking for sweet treats, researching tv shows to watch or studying at the Dude
Ahmed Uddin
Ahmed is from Michigan and he is majoring in Business. He is passionate about sports, technology, and all things Michigan. Ahmed can usually be found hanging out with friends, researching current events or studying at the Ross building.
Elaina Volk
Elaina is from Portland, Michigan and majors in Ecology, Evolution, and Biodiversity and Human Origins, Biology, and Behavior. She is passionate about learning, traveling, and all things Michigan. Elaina can usually be found eating ice cream, researching primates or studying at the Union.

Selena is from Novi, Michigan and is majoring in Computer Science-ENG. She is passionate about art, video games, and all things Michigan. Selena can usually be found drinking boba, eating No Thai, or studying at the Dude.
