Mission and Vision

Vision:

We unite a diverse academic community to use, understand, and amplify computing's transformative impact on science and for the good of society, striving for fairness, social justice, and positive global change.

Mission:

We empower all LSA students with a comprehensive computing education that enhances their majors and expands their career prospects, leadership potential, and citizenship opportunities.

Values:

  1. Accessibility - We are committed to all LSA students having access to a computing and digital education that is inclusive of all, to further their academic and professional journeys.   
  2. Interdisciplinary Collaboration - We value interdisciplinary partnerships and actively collaborate with LSA departments and other schools and colleges to develop diverse course offerings and minors that enhance existing majors.
  3. Holistic Education - We believe in a broad, coordinated vision for computing education in the liberal arts, encompassing computing for discovery, computing for expression, and computing for social justice, to ensure a well-rounded academic experience.
  4. Innovation and Excellence  - We are dedicated to continuously seeding and cultivating innovative approaches in computing education, pushing the boundaries of what can be achieved within the liberal arts.
  5. Supportive Learning Environment - We support new degree pathways with foundational and adaptable introductory computing courses, fostering a learning environment that is welcoming and conducive to all students.
  6. Community and Conversation - We commit to being a focal point for meaningful conversations about the role of computing and digital education within the college, encouraging thoughtful discourse and reflection.
  7. Empowerment through Education - We strive to empower students through education by expanding their career prospects, leadership potential, and opportunities for active citizenship in a digitally connected world.
