About
Warren Hecht retired from the Residential College in December 2016. He taught in the RC since 1970 and designed the Creative Writing and Literature Major which he headed for over thirty years. He also served as Assistant Director of the Residential College for Academic Services for seven years. He was awarded the Amoco Good Teaching Award ( 1980) and an Excellence in Education Award (1991) by the University of Michigan. In 1978 he received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to bring visiting writers to the Residential College. The Grant was renewed every year through 1984. He was general editor at Street Fiction Press from 1973-1981, overseeing the Periodical Lunch, Anon Anthologies and SFP Softcover Originals. His fiction has appeared in many publications, including the New Directions Anthology (#29) . In 1997 his papers concerning his writing and work at Street Fiction Press were requested by and donated to the University of Michigan Library. He is also a painter whose most recent showing was in the Residential College Art Gallery (2014). His work is owned by collectors around the country. He is an ordained Roman Catholic deacon and serves at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish in Ann Arbor.
