Craig Regester

Craig Regester has served as the Associate Director of the U-M Ann Arbor Semester in Detroit (SID) Program since 2008.  In addition to this primary role with the University, Craig is the Co-Director (w/ Dr. Addell Anderson, Director of the UM Detroit Center) of the newly launched MDetroit Center Connector – a pilot shuttle service that is strengthening connections between Detroit and Ann Arbor by providing regular transit service between the two cities.  [More information can be found at: http://detroitcenter.umich.edu/dc-connector].

As Associate Director for Semester in Detroit, Mr. Regester is responsible for running all administrative aspects of the program, including developing and maintaining relationships with over 50 non-profit and community-based organizations who host our students as interns while in Detroit.  In addition, Mr. Regester is an Adjunct Lecturer with the University of Michigan Residential College and teaches the Internship Reflection Seminar in the program.  

Mr. Regester received a Bachelors of Arts in Interdisciplinary Social Science in 1993 from the University of Michigan Residential College; he was certified by the State of Michigan as a secondary education instructor in 1998, and he received his Masters of Arts in Teaching from Wayne State University in 2007.  

Prior to his current position, Mr. Regester was the Outreach, Development and Communications Coordinator for the Residential College (RC) at the University of Michigan from 2002-2008.  In this capacity, Mr. Regester was responsible for improving both written and web-based communications materials for the RC, enhancing the stewardship of key RC donors, and for successfully leading the planning and execution of the RC’s 40th anniversary celebration in October 2007 that attracted nearly 500 alumni and friends of the College.  

Mr. Regester first began working in Detroit’s non-profit community in 1993, and has held several positions over a 10-year period in both the programmatic and development arenas.  He has worked for organizations, including: Save Our Sons And Daughters (SOSAD), Latin Americans for Social and Economic Development (La Sed), Alternatives For Girls, the Sugar Law Center, and the Southeast Michigan Coalition on Occupational Safety and Health (SEMCOSH).  In addition, Mr. Regester has worked as a development consultant and grant writer for over a dozen additional Detroit-based organizations.

Mr. Regester lived for almost 20 years with his family in the Hubbard Farms Historic District of SW Detroit.  Today, he and his family live in Berkley, Michigan – a nearby suburb – but maintain a deep and abiding love for the D.
