About
Soprano Jennifer Goltz specializes in new chamber music, opera, and cabaret. Her reputation for interpretive sensitivity, vocal virtuosity, musical precision, and creativity as a performer has inspired dozens of composers to write for her. Her collaboration with composer-pianist Logan Skelton spans two decades, two continents, and numerous song cycles.
She is a founding member of the new music ensemble Brave New Works and has appeared with Milwaukee-based Present Music. She recorded the role of the god Pan in Kamran Ince’s opera Judgment of Midas for Naxos; she can also be heard on Albany, Centaur, MSR Classics, AMP, and Blue Griffin Records.
At the invitation of the composer, she performed Luciano Berio's Circles at the Salzburg Music Festival’s Boulez and Berio celebration with members of Klangforum Wien. Her premiere and subsequent performances of John Berners’ unaccompanied monodrama Study on Peter have garnered international praise and prompted a follow-up opera, Jehanne. She created the role of the god Pan in Kamran Ince’s new opera Judgment of Midas, recently released on Naxos.
She can also be heard on Albany, Centaur, MSR Classics, AMP, and Blue Griffin Records. Her recording of Arnold Schoenberg's Pierrot lunaire and Brettl-lieder (MSR) with the Los Angeles-based ensemble Inauthentica was hailed by Gramophone as "captivating" and "brilliant… a voice full of subtle allure and sprightly energy." In the early 2000s, she fronted the popular Klezmer band Into the Freylakh, with whom she released an eponymous CD The Shape of Klez to Come. She has taught at the University of Michigan and Scripps College in Claremont, CA.
In addition to degrees in Vocal Performance, Jennifer holds a Ph.D. in Music Theory from the University of Michigan.
