On June 10, 2020, the Residential College offered an online Zoom teach-in Uprising Nation: What it Means and Where it Takes Us for 210 U-M students, faculty, and staff on the historical precedents and contemporary contexts of urban uprisings, challenges to police violence, and black protest movements. This event recording is below.
The event featured:
- Stephen Ward, Faculty Director of Semester in Detroit and Associate Professor in Social Theory and Practice in the Residential College and in Afroamerican and African Studies
- Heather Ann Thompson, Pulitzer Prize-winning Collegiate Professor of History and African American Studies and in the Residential College
- Dr. Harvey Slaughter, RC/LSA alum '72 English and History with a PhD in Leadership and Change Management, an activist in the early Black Action Movement I at U-M in the early 1970s
- Camilla Lizundia, RC alum '20 Environment and Urban Studies

On June 1, the Residential College published a statement to stand in solidarity with those protesting with the Black Lives Matter movement. We also invite you to look through the resources we have been collecting for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members to more deeply engage in the many layers of antiracist work.
