Internships

Internships enhance the program in Political Science by providing students with an opportunity to use their knowledge in a variety of applied environments and gain experience before seeking a career after graduation.  Internship opportunities for undergraduates are diverse; options range from work at local community organizations during the school year, summer programs in other cities, the Michigan in Washington (MIW) semester and study abroad.  Internships can be pursued as individual plans through courses such as PS 299 and 399, or through formal channels such as the Washington semester or Public Service Internship Program (PSIP) offered through the Student Career Center.  The Political Science Department does not place students in internships, but assists students in securing placements related to career and academic goals.

The Career Center

The Public Service Internship Program is housed in the Career Center, which places students directly in summer positions in government offices in Washington or Lansing. Application deadlines are in October of each year.  For more information, visit the Career Center website.
