Adelia Davis, an MCSP alum and former Peer Advisor for the Intergroup Relations Council, has been awarded the University of Michigan's Wallenberg Fellowship. This fellowship recognizes graduating seniors with high potential and promise to devote service towards greater public good. As part of the fellowship, Adelia has been awarded $25,000 to carry out an interdisciplinary project of her choosing; after graduation, Adelia chose to head to South Africa where she will work with children in Khayelitsha, a town right outside Cape Town. She plans to use American and South African children's books to help children of color share their own stories and histories, and develop their own sense of personal identity. As a pre-med student, Adelia understands the intersection between medicine and social justice work, and intends on using the skills developed in MCSP in a future career. The Intergroup Relations Council of MCSP, which Adelia served on, centers its work on diversity education and dialogue across social identities; she will be continuing her work in this field while abroad in South Africa. Adelia previously studied in the country as part of a Center for Global and Intercultural Study trip, learning more about race relations and medical work in South Africa. MCSP is extremely proud of Adelia's accomplishments and her drive towards carrying out MCSP values in her work and projects.
