"Prisons as Places of Knowledge"
This project explores prisons as unexpected spaces of knowledge, education, and democratic practice by bringing together the experiences of political prisoners in postwar Poland and incarcerated people in contemporary American prisons. Drawing on my expertise in Polish history and nearly a decade of teaching through the Inside-Out Prison Exchange Program, the book examines how learning, dialogue, and mutual care enable individuals to preserve dignity and humanity under conditions of confinement, while challenging conventional distinctions between authoritarian and democratic carceral systems.
