Digital Humanities Summer Institute

The Institute for the Humanities will provide funding for up to five humanities graduate students to attend the DHSI from June 8 - 12 or June 15 - 19, 2026 at the Université de Montréal, Canada. Each week will include skills training workshops as well as a selection of colloquia, panels, and institute lectures.

The list of this year's courses, as well as other information about the program, can be found at https://dhsi.org/course-offerings/. This year's course offerings include topics such as podcasting, practical JavaScript, digital approaches in music research, engaging play, race and social justice, digital collections and archiving, and many more.

Scholarships will cover the registration fee for one week and provide up to $600 in reimbursement towards travel. These scholarships require matching support from the applicant’s home department. We anticipate awarding five scholarships for Summer 2026. Awards will be based on the plan of study, including the statement of interest and rationale for participation.

Please note: DHSI is also offering a number of individual scholarships for the Summer Institute. For more information about this opportunity, please visit their website

Eligibility

Students enrolled in doctoral programs in LSA humanities departments at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor campus are invited to apply.

Criteria for funding include: relevance of the course offerings to the applicant’s dissertation or collaborative project, need for (further) training pursuant to research for that dissertation or related project, and the applicant’s status in their graduate program. Students who have not received an Institute for the Humanities DHSI scholarship will have priority over those who have.
