“Of Vessels and Values: The Arts of Survivance at a Crossroads of Asia”
How can humans maintain their presence in changing environments? The thesis of the monograph that I intend to write as an Institute for the Humanities Fellow is that cultural practices can permit individuals and communities to endure and emerge. As a case study, I query the manufacturing, display, circulation, iconography, and repair of metal vessels handcrafted and used in the Brahmaputra Valley, a geo-cultural crossroads of Asia.
