About the exhibition
Fashion/Forward is an invitational group exhibition presented in the Institute for the Humanities Osterman Common Room, featuring work by artists with developmental disabilities and/or mental health differences from 16 progressive art studios across the country.
Exploring fashion both as subject and as form, the exhibition brings together drawings, paintings, sculptures, textiles, wearable clothing, accessories, and other fashion-inspired works. Fashion/Forward is organized in conjunction with the 2026 Creating Community Conference in Detroit, led by the Progressive Art Studio Collective (PASC).
The exhibition is the latest project to emerge from an ongoing collaboration among the U-M Institute for the Humanities, Tierra del Sol Gallery in Los Angeles, and PASC Detroit. Institute for the Humanities Curator Amanda Krugliak, Tierra del Sol Gallery Founder Paige Wery, and PASC Founder Anthony Marcellini have collaborated on exhibitions and events since 2022 and come together again this year for Fashion/Forward and the Creating Community Conference, with support from the Institute for the Humanities.
