Geneviève Zubrzycki, William H. Sewell Jr. Collegiate Professor of Sociology, has been co-awarded the 2023 Rachel Feldhay Brenner Award in Polish-Jewish Studies by the Polish Institute of Arts & Sciences of America (PIASA). This is the second award for her monograph, Resurrecting the Jew: Nationalism, Philosemitism, and Poland's Jewish Revival, published by Princeton University Press in 2022. The book is "an in-depth look at why non-Jewish Poles are trying to bring Jewish culture back to life in Poland today."
Professor Zubrzycki specializes in nationalism and religion, collective memory and national mythology, and aesthetics and politics. Zubrzycki’s books and articles have received numerous awards and she is a recent recipient of the Guggenheim Fellowship. She is Director of the Weiser Center for Europe and Eurasia, the Center for European Studies, and the Copernicus Center for Polish Studies. Zubrzycki is a CREES Faculty Associate and affiliate of the Frankel Center for Judaic Studies.
