“As an incoming student to the University of Michigan four years ago, I knew I would pursue a major in International Studies. As I was dead-set on a career with the U.S. government, I chose the sub-plan in International Security, Norms and Cooperation (ISNC) with a concentration on Russia. The Program in International and Comparative Studies (PICS) allowed me to explore my interests in counter terrorism and epidemiology while challenging me and expanding those interests to include human rights and conflict resolution. I enjoyed all of my classes within PICS, particularly INSTLD 401: Refugee Voices with Professor Uehling.
That being said, my favorite memory from my time in PICS is my study abroad in Saint Petersburg, Russia during the summer of 2019. I was able to study abroad because PICS ensured all of my classes taken abroad would go towards my major. My experience in Saint Petersburg was incredible, and I aspire to live in the city some day.
After graduation, I will begin my career with the Department of Justice. All of my aspirations from my freshman year of college are coming to fruition, thanks to the support of PICS. I can’t wait to use my skills to help create change in the world. Go Blue!”
