Lucy Hall initially planned on going to the University of Michigan through the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance. When she switched to LSA, she had an interest in international business but wasn’t sure where to study. Luckily, her major in International Studies and minor in Entrepreneurship, as well as a study abroad program in Barcelona, let her explore this interest in-depth.
“I went to Barcelona on an international business program and I took some business classes and because PICS is so flexible, I was able to count all of those to my International Studies major. I also took a couple of marketing classes and it was super helpful to be able to take those classes,” Hall said.
Hall said she wouldn’t have been able to explore as much as she did during her years at the University without the help of the International Studies advising staff.
“I hated the idea of studying one thing so they were always so helpful in making sure I could take whatever classes interested me and fit in so I’ve taken communications classes, film classes, political science … Them walking me through and making sure I was getting the most out of my degree was so helpful because there was no way I would have graduated on time. They’re the best,” Hall said.
After graduation, Hall will be working in marketing and product development for the beauty industry in California.

Fondest memory of her experience in PICS: “I was able to study abroad twice during my time at UMich and PICS really enabled me to take advantage of the opportunities I had in London and Barcelona to enhance my degree. The flexibility of the program allowed me to pursue my interests in both politics and business on two continents and I was able to really explore the world outside of the classroom.”
Is there anything you would like to express to your peers, parents, professors, or others?:
“Thank you to the advising team for helping me every time I changed my mind and wanted to shift my focus drastically but still making sure I graduate on time. Thank you to my fellow graduates for bringing so many different experiences in the classroom and becoming my friends in addition to my classmates. Thank you to my professors for constantly challenging me to see the world from different perspectives and look for what trends and truths are universal. And thank you to Michigan for making me the best version of myself. Forever Go Blue!”
