On March 16, 2025, in the CCCB Auditorium, at the University of Michigan, professional performers from the most prestigious
Kunqu theater company in China will star in a six-part showcase of the history, richness, and wonders of this dynamic traditional theater. At the center of this event will be the performance of four short plays that dramatize Chinese social roles/stereotypes in traditional contexts (3-5 pm). Before the performances, there will be a lecture-demonstration to introduce the performative expressions of
kunqu (2-2:45 pm). After the performance, the audience will have a chance to ask questions of the performers (5-5:30 pm). This event is free and open to all.
