The Edward Hagop Noroian Scholarship Fund honors the memory, character, and many achievements of Dr. Edward Hagop Noroian. The son of Genocide survivors from Asia Minor, Dr. Noroian became a prominent figure in the public health arena, and at the height of his career served as the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at the Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. The fund was established in 2020 by Dr. Noroian’s wife, Jane Plasman.
The amount and number of awards will vary between $2,500 - $10,000 and will be determined by available funds and the judgment of the Committee on the quality of nominations and applications.
The recipient of this scholarship must demonstrate an interest in Armenian Studies and a plan to continue in that pursuit. A major or minor in Armenian Studies through the Department of Middle East Studies is preferred but not required. The University of Michigan offers an undergraduate minor in Armenian studies through the Department of Middle East Studies (MES). Information on minor requirements may be found on the MES website.
Terms of the Award:
- This award is given to a classified undergraduate student who has great promise, has completed at least 12 units of coursework at U-M, and is not in the final semester of his/her program.
- Awardee must commit to writing a report about how the funds are used in support of Armenian Studies according to the guidelines set by the Center for Armenian Studies
- Awardee must commit to participating in an event organized by the Center for Armenian Studies involving the award donor, Jane Plasman, at a date to be determined during the academic year following the award
